29th AIDA World Championship

29th AIDA World Championship Begins in 1 Week!

Next week, the International Association for the Development of Apnea (AIDA) is hosting its 29th AIDA World Championship in the association’s 30-year history. The competition will welcome freedivers from around the world to Roatan, Honduras from 15-25 August. 

Over ten days, athletes will train and compete in four depth disciplines: 

⦁    Constant Weight (CWT): The freediver descends and ascends attempting to reach a targeted depth by swimming with fins/monofin and/or their arms. Propulsion aids other than fins/monofin are prohibited. 

⦁    Constant No Fins (CNF): The freediver descends and ascends attempting to reach a targeted depth using only their arms and legs. Propulsion aids and/or pulling on the rope are prohibited. 

⦁    Constant Weight Bifins (CWTB): The freediver descends and ascends attempting to reach a targeted depth by swimming with bifins and/or their arms. Propulsion aids other than bifins are prohibited. 

  • Current Men’s World Record: 117m – Arnaud Jerald(France) 
  • Current Women’s World Record: 96m –  Alice Modolo(France)

⦁    Free Immersion (FIM): The freediver descends and ascends attempting to reach a targeted depth by pulling on the rope. Propulsion aids are prohibited. 

The featured sponsors at this year’s world championship are Double K and ATMOS..

Good weather is expected during the competition, as well as crystal clear waters with a predicted temperature of 30C and no thermocline.

The competition will be streamed live on AIDA’s YouTube Channel starting on 17 August.
