January 2012 Board Meeting

The Board had a meeting via Skype on January 29, 2012 but only 3 executive members were present (+3 non-executive Board members). The Board did not have the quorum required to vote on or approve proposals. Therefore, the required votes on several proposals were attained by email ,after the meeting . These subjects for vote are described below.

The Board reviewed a number of Instructor Trainer candidates, and will vote by email regarding approval of one IT candidate.

The Board reviewed proposed non-executive officers and committee members, and will vote by email to approve such positions.

Marcello and Ute will request judge applicants for the 2012 Team World competition as soon as possible in order to take advantage of discounted air fare booking and other considerations.The Team World Championships are scheduled for September 8-16 in Nice, France.

The Board continued to discuss sled diving procedures. The finalized document should be completed prior to the start of the summer diving season.

AIDA will work with organizers of several competitions to set up an AIDA World Cup circuit for 2012. An original AIDA world cup was organized in 2000, and this will be the first AIDA World Cup Circuit since that time. The proposed competitions are in Crete, Egypt, and Dean’s Blue Hole, Bahamas.

The Board is reviewing a commemorative logo for AIDA’s 20th Anniversary (in 2012). Final choices will go to the Assembly for vote in early  2012, for this symbol of the evolution of  Aida freediving .

The case has been closed regarding Freedive Dahab with the Disciplinary Committee and deemed no action will be taken at this time but the code of conduct will be created for Aida international.  The Aida Assembly and the FDD personnel will be informed of the findings and resulting recommendations of the investigation.

Jean-Pol Francois, the Education Officer, provided an update on identifying one or more insurance carriers for AIDA instructors and other AIDA participants on a worldwide basis. This project will be a priority for AIDA in 2012.

The Board discussed a schedule for upcoming meetings, and agreed that the next meeting will be in February. Please contact  AidaInternational.org with any topics you wish to be discussed.

December Board Notes

The Aida International Board met on December 10,2011 via Skype. The first item on the agenda was the Instructor/Trainer candidates. The Board has not received a recommendation from the EC regarding the IT candidates proposed by AIDA nationals. The Board has deferred this topic until January; the Board asked the EC to provide recommendations promptly based on the candidates’ qualifications.

The Board continued to discuss sled diving procedures. Items to be considered include proper use of lanyards, use of video camera on diver during the entire dive, and the four levels of responsibility. Grant presented a revised version of the deep diving guidelines, and will review the general safety guidelines to make sure they are current. Sled diving guidelines will follow the general safety guidelines by approximately one month.
Ben Noble, treasurer, provided an update on financial matters, including closure of annual financial statements using formal accounting processes for prior years. The Board discussed a number of matters relating to AIDA’s accounts and finances.
New AIDA PayPal Account. Ben noted that AIDA’s new Euro based PayPal account has been implemented, with payee: bank @ aidainternational.org
Kimmo asked Robert to notify the Assembly of the new PayPal information. Full information regarding payments to AIDA International can be found on the AIDA website at: http://aidainternational.org/questions-a-answers
The 2012 AIDA annual officer election was sent to Assembly members approximately 29 November, and concludes 12 December. Offices up for election this December (for the 2012-2013 term) are: President, Education Officer, Technical Officer.
AIDA 20th Anniversary Logo. The Board is reviewing a commemorative logo for AIDA’s 20th Anniversary (in 2012). Final choices will go to the Assembly for vote in 2012.
The Board voted to approve a request by an organization in Malaysia to be put to the Assembly for vote on Observer Membership. The Board also reviewed a proposal for an IT Contribution Policy for recently approved Instructor Trainers. The Board will implement this process in 2012.

It was decided that Grant and Ute will work with Claude Chapuis regarding medals and doping kits for the 2012 Team World Competition in Nice, France.

The winners of the best freediver and newcomer categories will receive a Suunto D6i gauge and the other winners will receive a Suunto D4i, generously provided by Suunto.

You may only vote for one person in each category and you may only vote once.

The deadline for submissions is midnight Dec 31, 2011 (CET). Results will be posted on the Aida Website in January 2012. Suunto has requested that the winners be photographed with their prize and the Suunto logo. If the winner cannot comply with this request, the 2nd place winner will receive the award.
